If you ever had sex once, then it is more likely that you are exposed to HPV or Human Papillomavirus. This virus is the one responsible for almost all the cases of cervical cancer in women. Cervical cancer is the cancer of the cervic or the neck-like opening of the uterus connected to vagina. Fortunately, most women have a strong immune system which can wipe out the virus inside the body. But for some women, the HPV virus survives which turns cervical cells into cancerous cervical cancer cells.
If you are someone who have had a number of sexual partners, then you are at higher risk. As well as those whose partners had numerous sexual partners. Engaging in early sexual practice such as before the age of 18 also puts women to higher risk.
If you want to have your first papsmear, see your gynaecologist or your family doctor. He will do a smear and a breast examination. In the process your doctor will take a cell sample from your cervix which will help him spot the abnormal cells even before they become cancerous.
