These two factors both determines the price you will have to pay for gold.  It is important to look at the karat rating so you can determine the pureness of a gold.  A purer gold will surely have a higher price.  You can find anything from 10 to 24 karat gold.  The 24 karat is the most pure gold that you can find.

One some newer scales they also use the fineness factor in which in a 24 karat gold, there is a 99.9 percent purity.  The reason behind this is because there are some impurities in gold.
